Pierre thinks he can help her, bring her back from the brink...

Séance spéciale présentée par Paul Otchakovsky-Laurens et David Teboul
Yves Saint-Laurent - 5, avenue Marceau
David Teboul

Scénario David Teboul, Image Antoine Parouty, Montage, voix off Anne Baudry, Son Fabien Krzyzanowki, Production Les Films d’Ici, Arte France

Passions Just Like Mine

Passions Just Like Mine is a documentary film telling the story of Latino music fans in the greater Los Angeles area whose lives have been utterly transformed by the words, music, and lifestyle of British pop star Morrissey. The film offers a stirring glimpse into how one’s course in life can be changed by a total stranger with seemingly no cultural similarities. The fans’ stories are revealed by the devoted themselves, providing powerful portraits of their obsession and transformative journeys. The camera follows these fans to Smiths tribute shows, Morrissey fan conventions and into Latino neighborhoods and family homes where the influence of the British pop icon resounds. One-on-one interviews with the fans are interspersed with personal archival materials including fanzines, flyers, and photographs, as well as live-footage from tribute bands such as Sweet and Tender Hooligans and These Handsome Devils. Passions Just Like Mine creates a window into a world where an eighteen-year-old Mexican immigrant can become obsessed with a forty-nine-year-old man he’s never known, and even more profoundly, that this same young person is anything but alone.

Flaming Ears

Flaming Ears is a german Blade Runner characterized by a fierce, punky throb and gelatinous F/X. As sapphic thrillers go, it’s twenty times more fun than Basic Instinct...(Andy Warhol’s Interview, june 1992)
Sexier than Sprockets, Flaming Ears hurtles into a future where the authoritative vobes of the universe belong to lesbian go-go dancers, pyromaniacs, and bouncers. This visually provocative science fiction thriller harbours ornate dialogues too outrageous to be pretentious. (Village Voice)
Flaming Ears is a pop sci-fi lesbian fantasy feature set in the year 2700 in the fictive burnt out city of Asche. It follows the tangled lives of three woman: Spy, comic book artist; Volly, a performance artist and sexed up pyromaniac; and Nun, an
amoral alien with a predilection for reptiles.
It’s a story of love and revenge, and an antiromantic plea for love in its many forms. It’s also a story laced with sex, violence and a pulsating soundtrack, a cyberdyke movie, stimulating both the body and the brain.
Playing with monstruosity and taking pleasure in violating taboos are both evident in the work of Angela Hans Scheirl and Ursula Pürrer. Since the early 1980s, female desire and pleasure in power form their central themes. With humour and irony,
they pursue a break with tradition and boldly deal with outlawed aspects of feminine identity.
Between horror film and comic strip, trash movie and underground film, lesbian porn movie and fantasy film, the protagonists operate outside all spheres of tradition. They are horny, brutal, and on the hunt, savagely pursuing their desires. They stick
hands and knives into their bodies, and blood flows. (Elke Schüttelkopf)

The Attali Report (or the Report of the Commission for the Liberation of French Growth), commissioned by President Sarkozy, was published half a year ago, provoking a long series of discussions, mainly confined to the French public arena and mainly focused on the report's concrete proposals, set to implement a neoliberal model for the French economy and society. But the Attali Report is a surprisingly interesting text, especially in its emphatic high brow literary introduction, being one of the first major instances where the neoliberal system is asserted beyond the rather discreet discourse of the "necessary reforms" through which it has insinuated itself since the eighties. It is now invested with the value of a concrete historical paradigm, of a describable era of revolutionary novelty, making the Attali Report a relevant document for the current attempts to imagine a dominant narrative representing and organizing the scope of our global system.
However, this exhibition is neither about the Attali Report nor is it a report itself. It does, nonetheless, try to unfold fictions and images that offer an insight on different narratives that have been overlapping for the past decades in our thinking of politics, at different times and in different localities. It refers to the disintegration of the communist utopia and some images, passions, stories and reactions that came along with this process; it visits the meeting of fiction and Utopian thinking on both sides of the Iron Curtain; it mentions some processes of exoticization and nation building; it acknowledges the formation of communities of struggle and resistance.
But the works don't passively present such narratives, they alter them and participate - albeit indirectly - to their fabrication. The exhibition works at this point of interaction between story telling and political imagination, a knot that encapsulates the political potential of art as an agent of representation. It brings together these occurrences and positions, sometimes contradictory, sometimes doubtful and sometimes passionately engaged and determined.
The reference to the Attali report on the state of France, a highly specific and local anchor, is used to take the discussion into a wider perspective, to mark the moments and the blockages - as well as some parallel areas of articulation - that have contributed to the current crisis in the imagination of a language and a scope for politics.
The exhibition is accompanied by interventions of writers and critics and by a film program that reiterates a few lines of the exhibition, using the cinematic language and its potentials.

Filmer La Musique

A film festival to be experienced as a rock festival ...
Filmer la Musique #2 will take place in Paris from june 3 to june 8, 2008.
"Alongside the canal, in the heart of the city, from the Point Éphémère to the Mk2 Quai de Seine, and in a secret location to be revealed soon.
The Filmer la Musique festival focusses on many links between filmed images and music. It offers screenings, installations, performances, as well as live music filmed by invited directors and artists.
With a call for entries sent to more than 600 artists collectives, art schools and medias around the -globe, the festival’s program is based on a true discovery work, and presents innovative and rare works.
Filmer la Musique aims to be a very lively and participative event, looking to generate new productions, and wishing to turn its spectators into future invited artists.
Focused on music films, the festival also offers a screening space for new contemporaries formats (phone films, rough rushes, youtube and myspace productions ...). During 5 days and 5 nights, the festival will present a selection of works that tries to invent themselves out of the rules of broadcasting and will focus on original and audacious approaches.
Music films - at least the ones that we are interested in - form a separate - although mostly indefinite - category. Often produced by the directors or the musicians themselves, financed and shot according to their own rules, they invite us to discover another side of things: a city, a moment in time, a way to dress, to talk, to behave. To film music is a way to connect to the intensity of a time, to the intensity of life.
And it's that intensity, that rough and intense connection, that the Filmer la Musique festival intends to present."

GREAT EXPECTATIONS

Capricious Collective New York, just released their first issue of SCREEN CAPRICIOUS, which is a dvd of short fine films and videos from eclectic artists, seemingly about Expectations.
The guest editor of this issue is Amy Von Harrington who is a lo-fi video artist and collagist. "Amy comes from the desert and inhabits the sole of twilight".
27 artists predominantly females, all from different cities, have contributed to this project. With a real diversity around the theme of Expectations, the films are sometimes funny, sometimes sad, sometimes weird, experimental, political, romantic,or just like a documentary. This dvd is full of good ideas and energy giving a brief vision of fresh and arty image languages made by various talented artists.
We all have great Expectations ...
"I am like powder, I am like relaxation
I am the snow, I am the snow, I am the snow
I live in a desert
And I let the wind make love to me
I dig in this ocean and i try to fill it with gold
Fill it to the top, fill it to the top, fill it to the top
Do you look for hope in other people's eyes?
Well that may be your worst redemption
Do you feed and clothe yourself?
Well that may be your best defense
I am from the moon, I am from the moon, I am from the moon,
So they say, so they say, so they say
Facing, confronting, branding each other
We were made through one another
Great expectations, great expectations, great expectations"

Gertrud 1964 vs. 2007
Paris, Film Premiere, Tuesday March 4th, 7:30 pm, Palais de Tokyo.

GERTRUD
A film by Juliette Bineau, remake of "Gertrud" Carl Theodor Dreyer's film.
with: Aurélie Delafon, Etienne Blanchot, Lionel Fernandez, Thomas Pigache, David TV
DV, 84 min, 2007
- "Gertrud" (1964) -W/B- is Carl Theodor Dreyer's last film. It is set in the beginning of the 20th Century, in Stockholm (?), in a middle-class and Protestant environment. The action takes place during two nights and two days. It is mainly made of long sequences shot during the summer 1963, in studio.
- "Gertrud"(2007) - Color-, Juliette Bineau's remake is a "film de chambre", shot in digital video in Paris. It reproduces the continuity of the film source shot by shot. The actors are her close friends, they "re-play" the film in their own interiors, today in Paris, and they are dubbed by the soundtrack of Dreyer's film. French subtitles.
The story:
"In the elegant world of artists and musicians, Gertrud ends her marriage to Gustav Kanning and takes a lover, the composer Erland Jansson. When he also fails to live up to her idealistic standards, she leaves him and imposes on herself a kind of exile of the heart. In flashbacks and in conversations laced with memories, we also learn of her affair with the poet Gabriel Lidman, who still wishes she would go off with him, and we learn of her adolescence, with its early expression of her isolating ideal of absolute love."
