"In the summer of 2008, Rhys Chatham visited Bern, Switzerland for a Guitar Trio performance together with local musicians that the club had recruited for him. They rehearsed during the day and played a fabulous show that night. Rhys was blown away by the skills of the drummer and bass player and talked about plans to form a trio - half a year later he was back in Bern and introduced Julian Sartorius (drums) and Mago Flueck (bass) to new compositions he brought along. Beat Unternährer on trombone joined as guest musician.
Reto Mäder (RM74, Sum Of R, Ural Umbo) recorded many hours of these sessions on a multi-track machine. Over the next few months, Mäder listened to the recordings, separated the wheat from the chaff, selected the best parts and made pre-mixes. He even mixed different parts of the takes together and sent them to Rhys, who noted what he wanted to have changed or replaced. After more than 100 hours of work, a brand new Rhys Chatham album was finally mixed and mastered.
Some tracks are only slightly modified from the original recordings, with just a few effects added or small sections from other parts of the recording sessions mixed in. Other sections emerged purely in the mixing studio and were created from different parts of the sessions. And some sections were complemented by extra instrumental tracks played by Mäder himself.
The result is an album of new Rhys Chatham tracks with this band - something you haven't heard since the Die Donnergötter recordings of the 80s..."

Black Action Films 1968-1975
Les films d’action blacks du début des années 70 ont offert à Hollywood son premier cinéma noir: acteurs, réalisateurs, caméramans, scénaristes, éditeurs. Intimement lié aux préoccupations identitaires et aux revendications politiques de la communauté noire, en pleine lutte pour les droits civiques, ce nouveau cinéma répond à l’attente des noirs américains de disposer de leurs propres héros, de pouvoir être fiers de ce qu’ils sont.
Des bandes originales de ces films, de qualité exceptionnelle, on retrouve parmi le meilleur de la funk et de la black music. Des stars comme James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, Willie Hutch et Roy Ayers y ont produits certains de leurs meilleurs morceaux, les budgets alloués pour ces films permettant la présence d’arrangements orchestraux gigantesques pilotés par des légendes du jazz comme Quincy Jones, Johnny Pate et JJ Johnson.
"Can You Dig It?"rassemble dans un double CD /vinyle les BO incontournables des films d’actions noirs des années 1970-75s. L’édition de ce coffret est accompagnée d’un livret d’une centaine de pages, reproductions d’affiches de films rappelant le contexte politique nord-américain contemporain de ces films.

EDH – New York Tracks 2001-2002

Emmanuelle de Héricourt est, au début des années 2000, la femme de l’ombre de l’electronica française. Elle ne fait que de rares mais sublimes apparitions sur les albums de Hypo, de Anne Laplantine et sur les compilations du label Active Suspension. Mais si ses apparitions se font rares, c’est qu’EDH n’est pas physiquement présente à Paris au moment où un mini buzz pousse ses pairs sous les projecteurs de la « French Touch off ».
En effet, en 2001, EDH est en pleine déprime à New York.
Désœuvrée et désargentée, elle erre dans un appartement vide de Manhattan et n’a pour activité officielle qu’un emploi précaire de VJ à la Knitting Factory.
Le reste du temps, elle le passe en autiste, avec pour seuls compagnons, un chat du Bronx et un synthétiseur rafistolé. En secret, elle se livre corps et âme à une musique de cave qui n’aurait a priori jamais pu sortir de son vieux PC.
Et c’est ce qui se serait passé si le rappeur américain Subtitle, qui dirige le label Matte Black Editions à Los Angeles, n'eusse mis la main sur les dossiers secrets d'Emmanuelle, pour nous livrer un album dont la beauté n’a d’égal que la tristesse.
« New York Tracks » est une route solitaire semée d’embûches. Une progression lente et prudente, à la lampe torche, vers des retranchements qui frôlent souvent la folie. Un chemin de croix qui traverse des contrées cendrées, où seule l’abstraction fait figure d’oasis. On croise tour à tour le fantôme de Nico, la poisse du « Geek The Girl » de Lisa Germano, la noirceur du « Pornography » de Cure et la vraie/fausse naïveté des Residents.
A mi parcours l’album s’ouvre pleinement sur une lumière pop avec des tubes majestueux, des bouffées salvatrices d’humour et d’autodérision, avant de retourner, comme par fatalité, à la désolation initiale.
Les perfectionnistes de la technique auront tôt fait de perdre leur temps à parler de lo-fi quand il s’agit simplement de la condition sine qua non à l’expression d’une fragilité magnifique.
Depuis son retour à Paris, Emmanuelle de Héricourt a sorti plusieurs albums (dont un au Japon sur le label Intik), elle a monté le groupe ii avec le guitariste de La Chatte, et a co-écrit, avec Hypo, l’album « The Correct Use Of Pets » qui a remporté le premier prix aux Qwartz Electronic Music Awards de 2007. Elle contribue d’ailleurs au nouvel album de Hypo qui paraîtra en janvier sur le label Tsunami-Addiction (dDamage, Milkymee, La Chatte).
EDH vient également de sortir un EP vinyle 6 titres sur le label Lentonia Records (A&E, Elmapi) qui éditera aussi son prochain album début 2010.

The 16th Hour,
"unmastered musical"
Brooklyn based multi-disciplinary artist, Amber Ibarreche recently set up a new music project called The 16th Hour. It dived into my ears like a magical bullet, and it felt necessary to put some lights over it.
Where do you come from?
I'm from Atlantic Beach. A small town in Northern Fl. I moved up to NYC as soon as I dropped out of High School.
You did an exhibition at Capricious Space few months ago: "Ceremonial Entanglements", what was it all about?
Ceremonial Entanglements was a collection of fossilized interpretations of a telegraphers mind. False impressions of Anatomical slang.
You have recently started this music project: The 16th Hour. What's your artistic perspective(s) with it?
The 16th hour is a ruff draft. An unfinished sketch with sound. An unmastered musical.
What are your influences in music?
I'm more inspired than influenced by other music. Bob Dylan, Shannon Funchess of (light Asylum), Bunny, Echo and the bunnymen, shocking blue, Ride, The list is infinite.
Why is Brooklyn so intensively productive right now especially in music, with all these incredible bands making incredible sounds? It seems like you're all connected in some way?
Brooklyn is a magnetic field, A silent film with handmade soundtracks. The evidence is there and everyone takes it upon themselves to turn it into whatever they want it to be. Most everything seems to be done by instinct. We have to be connected. Whether its from afar or a personal encounter. We couldn't exist without each other. There would be know support. Therefore we'd all crumble. I try to stay away from the collective because it excludes.
Who are your artistic buddies?
Most of my artistic buddies are my close friends. Shannon, Bunny, Ry Fyan, etc...
What is happening at the 16th hour?
A lot of laughing is happening in the 16th hour. It's awaiting its final draft.
